Twelve-year-old Winnie Willis has a way with horses. She can gentle the wildest mare, but other parts of her life don't always come as easily. Along with her dad and sister, Lizzy, Winnie is learning how to live without her mom, who was also a natural horse gentler.

As Winnie teaches her horses about unconditional love and blind trust, God shows Winnie that he can be trusted too. Readers will be hooked on the vivid characters in this series, whose quirky personalities fill Winnie's life with friendship and adventure. In #8 Buckskin Bandit, when a buckskin disappears from the rundown Happy Trails stable, Winnie and her friend Kaylee set out to investigate--and discover that God gives them strength to choose joy over selfishness.

What Readers Have to Say About Buckskin Bandit...

Send us Your Thoughts about this book!  You may see them on this page.

"I finished 'Buckskin Bandit'.  But now I don't know what to read.  Every other horse book I've read is not even interesting.  Have any ideas on what to do (beside riding horses and spending time with horses, which I do all the time)?" ~ LoVeR oF hOrSeS

[Editor's Note:]  Have you read Dandi's Horsefeathers series?  You can find information about this and other books that Dandi has written on her site at www.dandibooks.com

"My favorite color of horse is buckskin.  I didn't even know about this book until my mom bought it for me.  I love Dandi's books.  She's my favorite author." ~ Your fan, Aly

"Hay Winnie - Do you think you could give me the basics on gentling?"
~ Lover Of Horses

[A Note from the Winnie Team:]  Well, there's a lot to it.  In fact, there are whole web sites devoted to the subject.  Your best bet would be to check out some of the sites on our Links page, where you'll find links to some of the most famous horse gentlers in the world.  Happy reading!

"This was an amazing book.  Winnie - I know how it feels to try to be happy for someone when you're not.  It was great that Buckskin Bandit was no longer abused and that you and Madeline became friends."

"Dear Winnie - I love all of your books but mostly 'Buckskin Bandit'.  It reminds me so much of my most loved horse, Willow.  Like Kaylee, I don't have a horse of my own, but I take riding lessons and ride Willow every time.  I want to thank you so much for teaching me through these books.  I can't wait to read the next book!" ~ Molly

"I thought that 'Buckskin Bandit' was a really great book!  I have all of the books in the series.  It was really sad at first, but in the end it turned out great!  They caught the bad guy.  I don't see how anyone could treat a horse that way!"

"Dandi - I loved this book!  I especially like the parts when Winnie and Kaylee kept going to see Bandit.  I really hope you keep writing Winnie The Horse Gentler." ~ HORSE CRAZY EMILY

"Where can I get 'Buckskin Bandit'?"

[Editor's Note:]  Try the new Tyndale Store Locator page.  You can search for retailers in your area or shop online.

"Mrs. Mackall -  I need your help!  I want to read these books SO terribly bad, but I have to read the WHOLE Bible first!  I'm so bummed!  I was looking forward to getting these awesome books that are waiting for me and reading them!  But, Dad said that I'm obsessed with horses and I've sort of not read the Bible or said anything ABOUT God for a long time, because I'm always reading your books and talking about horses.  My mom's buying the books for me today, but I can't read them until I have read the WHOLE Bible.  I guess it's not really that bad, because I'm a super fast reader, but I'm so disappointed.  Got any advice?"
~ Frustratedly-Grunting-HorseCrazy! ~

[A Note from Dandi:]  Hi!  Well, it wouldn't be right of me to go against what your parents said.  Maybe you could get busy and show your parents that you're willing to cooperate.  If you stick to it for a while, I bet that you can come to an agreement with them!

[A Note from the Winnie Team:]  We'd all like to thank all of you who have been sending in your amazing pictures and stories for the Horse Talk and Barnyard sections of the site.  You're really doing a terrific job!  We have lots of new reader stories and chapters this month.  We'd like to invite everyone to have a look through the site and see what wonderful things are being shared by Winnie fans.  And, keep 'em coming!

"[Buckskin Bandit] is so COOL!  I haven't read all of it yet, but I like it so far.  I don't mean to speed-read through the books, but they're so interesting, that I can't help it." ~ Lover of Horses ^.^

"Winnie - I am so happy!  I might get to go to a horse show that my friend is showing in!  I am like, SO excited, but I'm afraid I'll do something wrong.  My friend and the horse that she leases, (we say he's her horse) Comanchy, are showing Western.  I also might get to spend the night with her and get up at 4:30 to help her get Comanchy ready.  I'm so happy!  But, can you give me some hints on Do's and Don'ts?  Thanks for your help."
~ HorseShowCrazy! ~

[A Note from Dandi:]  Congratulations - and don't worry about a thing.  Let your friend take the lead on this one.  Just go and have a wonderful time!

"Winnie, Mrs. Mackall, and Editor -  My mom writes some poetry and she wants to try publishing it.  She told me to ask how we would come about doing that?  Also, are my stories good enough to be published?  Because I want to try it, but I'm afraid to.  Any advice?  Nickers!" ~ HorseCrazy! ~

[A Note from the Winnie Team:]  We're glad that you love writing!  Getting published can be quite a project for any author.  Tyndale only accepts manuscripts from professional literary agents, but you'll find some useful tips for things like "Getting Beyond the Slush Pile" on Tyndale's Become an Author page.  The Predators and Editors web site is an online guide to publishers and publishing services.  It lists warnings about companies that charge fees or may not be otherwise recommended.  On the site are lists of contests and magazine publishers - both can be good ways to get started.  And, there are a number of books written on the subject of "getting published".  Check an online resource like Amazon.com for books about the business.

"Hi - I loved this book!  It is one of my favorites.  I'm glad that Winnie and Kaylee could help Bandit.  Please keep writing these awesome books."
~ Horselover

"I'm on chapter 14 and I'm getting so excited!  I can't wait to find out what's going to happen next.  I still seem to speed-read through the books though, 'cause I love 'em so much.  Dandi, don't stop writing!  If you did, I wouldn't know what to read.  I love your books!" ~ Lover of Horses

"Winnie, Mrs. Mackall and Editor!  Awesome!  I am so happy that 'Buckskin Bandit' is out!  I can't wait to see what it is about!" ~ HorseCrAzY! ~

"Wow!  What's going to happen to Bandit?  I just can't wait to read this book.  When I saw the new books on the 'Horse Tales' page, I screamed - literally screamed.  This is too good to be true, and these books will be on my birthday list, definitely." ~ Cierra

[A Note From The Winnie Team:]  Thanks very much to all of you!  Your enthusiasm makes doing this twice as much fun!

"I just read Chapter One on the web site and it is so sad!  I almost cried, because of the condition those poor horses lived in!...  I sure hope Winnie gets Bandit and helps the other horses, too!  Looking forward to reading the WHOLE book!"  ~*HorseCrazy*~
