Perfect Gift
By Cierra, The Horse Lover

I looked out of my window at the empty corral below.  That's how I felt.  Empty.  Ever since my beloved horse, Golden Nugget had been sold, I couldn't bear to speak to anyone.  I had bred Nugget about ten months ago to a beautiful bay Appaloosa.  Then, she was sold to someone we didn't know that well and he sold her in an auction...

A Saved Friendship
By Eowyn HorseCrazy

“Lightning, stop that!” I shouted as my friend’s Shetland stallion tried biting Gifty through the fence.  I shoved his nose back through the rails and he squealed.  We where trying to get Gifty to go play in the paddock with my friend’s horses, the 3-year-old black filly Spirit and 10-year-old buckskin mare Gracie, a.k.a., Spirit of the Wind and Graceful Glory.  But, the orphaned filly wouldn’t leave our side, even though Gracie had adopted her.  She just snorted and perked her ears at the other two mares, who stood watching the new filly, swatting flies with their long tails...

Promise Kept
By Grace

I walked into the rodeo arena near our house, where a beautiful horse was jumping and twisting over the jumps.  "Need any help?" I called while I walked up to the men standing there.

"Not from a young lady like you,"  the men called back.  I was sure they did need help, but since I'm only ten, I doubted that they would want me around.

"You sure you don't need help?"  Finally, they motioned for me to come...

Amazing Splendor
By Jasighia HorseCrazy

I looked out my window at our empty, dead yard with teary eyes. That’s how I've been feeling lately…dead.  Alone.  I love horses, unlike my parents, and ever since I was five years old, I’ve had my dream horse…

Morning Star
By Horse Crazy Brianna

My mother's last words rang in my ears as she walked out of my room.

"...Just because this land came with a paddock and barn doesn't mean we have to get a horse, Lisa.  As soon as you make the money, prove you're responsible - and get your own place - you can get one."

Jade
By Cierra, The Horselover

The silent whisper of the willow trees woke Jade.  She wasn’t sure why it woke her, but there was someone or something watching.  A creepy feeling went up her thin back...

Keeta's Gift
By Eowyn HorseCrazy

“Elisabeth Grace!  What are you doing?” My mother opened the door to my room, where I was laying on my bed drawing.

“What, Mom?”  I jumped up and looked at my mother.  It was after 4:00, and I’d recently finished my school.  Mom put a wet hand on her hip...

Divine Grace
By Grace

I reached for the bluish-gray colored pony.  She bared her teeth, as if she would bite me.  I pulled my hand away from the fence as fast as I could.  Her teeth caught the wooden fence.  I reached for her again.  This time, she backed away, as if I'd tried to slap her.

"I'm just trying to pet you," I pleaded.  "Just let me..."

For Love of Horses
By Horse Crazy Brianna

"For Love of Horses!" I sighed as I read the sign next to the driveway: Pinewood Stables.  Looking past the large house, I saw two big barns, some pastures and a paddock.  I walked up the driveway, then up the steps of the front porch and knocked on the door.  While I waited, I scanned the pastures for signs of horses.  When I didn't see any, I started to turn away, disappointed.  But, suddenly I saw a horse that nearly took my breath away.  She was completely black with no sign of white anywhere, except for one tiny, barely visible star on her forehead. "Just like Schatze," I murmured.  Just then, a woman answered the door...

Morning Sunrise
By Grace

I watched as a bay Morgan and a roan black horse walked in circles around the outside of the arena.  The riders never tried to make the horses gallop or run.  They let the horses walk.  I walked to them.

"Would you like to ride?" the riders asked me.

Horse Dreams
By Christine

The back yard seemed to watch me, telling me I had no horse.  I knew that.  I would never have one.  My brother and I have a dog and a cat.  I had to at least see a horse, feel one, ride one.  And, today I was going to do all that.  I was going to the stables near my house.  I needed a friend.  I rode to the stables on my bike.  My hair was under a baseball cap, but kept flying out from under it...

To Rescue a Dream
By HorseCrazy

“Beth!”  I heard a hushed voice outside my window.  I hurried across my room and stuck my head out.

“Who...? Rae!  What are you doing?”

“Shh!”  Rae shushed me, glancing over her shoulder.  She was on her bike.

“What’s up?” I asked curiously.

Sunset
By Grace

I walked my dog around the back yard.  The sky was gray and filled with rain clouds.  That was what it was like inside, too.  Dreary.  That's why I came outside.  My dog, Buster, is usually fun to play with.  But, when I put him on a leash, he always drags me to the gate to see if my cat is there.  I once accidentally let him bite the cat, not knowing he would.  Now he always tries to bite the kitty.  Of course, I have habits of my own.  Once I rode a horse at the farina and now I want to ride horses whenever I can...

A Friend in Need
By Jennifer

I was out riding with Amy, a friend of mine, one day in the summertime.  We both kept our horses at a boarding facility where we trained hunter/jumpers.  We decided that we would work on jumping this one jump that came after a tight turn, something that we both needed to practice...

Lily of the Valley
By Grace

I watched as a horse kicked in his stall.  The stalls at 'The Yellow Rose of Texas' are just metal poles that form a box around the horses.  There's a wooden roof to keep the horses out of the rain.  The horse jumped over the the stall door and began running in the 'yard' where the owners ride.  I watched the horse begin to canter, then gallop again.  He seemed to want to run out of the sandy pasture.  He seemed to leap in his stride while running - leaping in sprints.  He ran to the corner of the pasture and reared.  He was a beautiful paint stallion...
